Dr. Hal Herring
Dr. Hal Herring attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in 1974. Dr. Herring is a member of the American Eye Association, member and past president of the North Carolina State Optometric Society, and a member and past president of the Sandhills Optometric District.
He and his wife Karen have lived in Fairmont since 1974 and have three adult children, Dr. Jason Herring, an Orthodontist in Hickory, N.C., Dr. Ben Herring, an Optometrist in Knoxville, TN, and Kacy Herring Babcock, a certified family counselor and homemaker in Greenville, SC.
Dr. Sam Johnson
Dr. Sam Johnson is an Iowa native graduating Magna Cum Laude from Iowa State University with a bachelor of science degree in Biology and a minor in Business. He then attended Southern College of Optometry (SCO) in Memphis, TN where he received clinical honors and awards for his externship experiences. Through his clinical rotations, Dr. Johnson externed at Wolfe Eye Clinic, an ophthalmology referral clinic, in Des Moines, IA, had rotations through ocular disease, primary eye care, contact lenses, low vision, vision therapy, and pediatric vision at SCO in Memphis, TN, and externed at a general private practice setting in Whiteville, NC. While excelling in the clinic he also excelled in the classroom graduating in 2013 in the top 25% of his class. He enjoys all aspects of primary eye care ranging from InfantSEE exams for children six months to one-year-old, myopia management, fitting of glasses and contact lenses, medical management of ocular disease and red eyes, and geriatric eye care.
Dr. Johnson moved to North Carolina upon graduation following the love of his life back to her roots. He was raised in a rural community and grew up helping his dad on the family farm. He appreciates small-town values and is becoming more and more involved in the local communities joining the local Fairmont Rotary Club as soon as he joined the clinic in the summer of 2013. During his free time, Dr. Johnson enjoys gardening and spending time with his wife and two young children.
